About Dr. Heiner Tillmanns

Dr. Heiner Tillmanns is a native of Hamm, Germany. He graduated from high school in his hometown, then completed compulsory military service in the Medical Corps of the Bundeswehr (German Army). Heiner graduated from dental school at the RWTH Aachen with honors in 1987 and in 1988 received a Doctorate in Dentistry in the field of Human Anatomy.


After a year of travelling, Heiner became an associate in a dental practice in Basel Switzerland. In 1991-92, he completed a preceptorship in Periodontics at the LSU Dental School in New Orleans while working as a research associate in dental implantology. In 1992, Dr. Tillmanns started the residency program in Periodontics and Implantology at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, (UTHSCSA). He graduated in 1995 from UTHSCSA with a Certificate in Periodontics and a Masters of Science, maintaining a grade point average of 4.0 and making the Dean's List every year.

Dr. Tillmanns' mentors include world-renowned periodontists and researchers: Dr. R. Meffert, Dr. D. Cochrane, Dr. J. Mellonig, Dr. B. Mealy, Dr. K. Kornman, Dr. W. Hallmon and others. In 1995, Dr. Tillmanns completed the rigorous National Examining Board of Canada requirements for licensure in Canada. In the meantime, Heiner worked as an associate dentist in Freiburg, Germany.

In 1996, Dr. Tillmanns made the move to Prince George and has been, serving the population of northern B.C. ever since. In 1997, he achieved the prestigious status of Diplomate with the American Board of Periodontology and Certified Specialist status in B.C. He has published articles in the Journal of Implantology and the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants. Since 2001, Heiner has also taken on the role of examiner in Periodontics for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

Heiner has enjoyed making Prince George his home. Taking advantage of the local ski areas in the winter and camping in the summer are just a few of the activities Dr. Tillmanns enjoys with his four growing girls. Heiner and his daughters also love to travel abroad, such as South America, Africa and of course his native Germany to name a few but the heart always remains close to home in beautiful British Columbia.
